Is Vijay’s suspense character in ‘Leo’ similar to what Kamal Haasan played 35 years back ?

Thalapathy Vijay fans are already counting the days to watch him in full flow in a dark role for the first time in ‘Leo’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film with Anirudh’s music and costarring Trisha and Sanjay Dutt among others is releasing worldwide on October 19th. The promotions have already begun and Lokesh Kanagaraj and writers Rathnakumar and Dheeraj Vaidy have given several interviews on YouTube revealing key highlights of the film.

In the trailer there is a controversial dialogue where Vijay playing the chocolate maker Parthiban shouts curse words out in frustration that what can he do for a criminal closely resembling him. It is obvious that the villains are hounding him and his family members and the peace loving character has to hit out.

Meanwhile there is a buzz that Vijay is playing the role of an amnesia patient who has totally forgotten his past. When the villains come after him he is slowly reminded of his past and there is a totally violent man lurking inside.

This buzz has once again proved that Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan is years ahead when it comes to attempting unique characters. 35 years back in ‘Vettri Vizha’ directed by Prathap Pothen, Kamal played the role of an undercover cop who loses his memory and is hunted by the underworld and he slowly regains his memory to deal with them.

It is well known that Lokesh Kanagaraj is a hardcore Kamal Haasan fan and though ‘Leo’ is based on ‘The History Of Violence’, he may have been inspired by the Ulaganayagan’s 1989 film to derive his character. We will have to wait for the film to release to find out if this buzz is true or not.
